I grew up just a few miles from Smithville, MS. On April 27, 2011 an EF5 tornado hit the town of almost 900 residents. It had winds of 205 miles per hour. It was a half-mile wide and was on the ground for close to three miles, killing 14 and injuring 40. The tornado also destroyed 18 homes, 14 businesses, and two churches.
