Looking Out My Backdoor

With all the eagle watching I've been doing lately, I feel like I've lost a little perspective. I saw this guy in the back yard and realized that God spent just as much time on this Robin as he did the Bald Eagles I've been stalking. I think I'll take time more often to slow down and appreciate the little things...Genesis 1:20-25

Once in a Lifetime Shot...Bald Eagle eats fish

Chris and I had been waiting for about an hour and a half to get photos of a Bald Eagle. Just as we were about to leave, I saw the eagle approaching, talons down. It dove towards the lake, scooped up a fish, and then fought off a hawk trying to steal it in mid-air! Then, it landed in a tree and ate the fish about 40 yards from us. Wow. I am so blessed to not only have witnessed this, but was able to capture the moment. Fingers crossed for more photos!

All photos taken with Canon 5DMKIII 100-400 Canon L-Series lends, edited in Lightroom 4 and Ps CS3.

Memphis Botanic Garden

I visited one of my favorite places this past weekend. Hidden in Memphis, TN is the Memphis Botanic Garden, a beautiful, well-kept, 96 acre property full of a variety of flowers, plants, and trees. I have been going since I was a child and I feel privileged to have seen the garden change and grow over the years. Recent additions have made it more educational and local schools often go to be outdoors and learn about nature through hands-on activities. My favorite part of the garden has always been the Japanese Koi fish pond. The Koi are so used to visitors that you can actually hand feed them and when fish food is thrown into the water a feeding frenzy ensues...Enjoy!
